EL formative asessment(semester 2),

FACTS :
- Sri Lanka passed the Ceylon Citizenship Act of 1948.
- The Sinhalese was th majority in Sri Lanka and the Tamils was the minority there.
- The Tamils were stateless, as they came to Sri Lanka with the British at a later piont of time.
- The Sinhalese cpuld not speak English, whereas the Tamils could speak the language very well.
- As a result, the British chooses the Tamils as they were educated and the Tamils gets to work in the government services but not the Sinhalese.
- The Sinhalese were not happy with this though, and therefore they created the 'Sinhala only policy'.
- The policy stated that the Tamils had to learn the Sinhalese language in three years or else they shall be chased away and can never stay in Sri Lanka.
- Sinhalese became the official language of Sri Lanka.
Tamils benefited in University Exams as they had the advantaged of speaking English.
- However, both languages were equal in some courses offered in the University.
PLOTS :
MAIN CHARACTERS : Lila and her parents, Mdm Luchmi and Mr Raja. Robbi and his parents, Mdm Lalita and Mr Gopal.
Plot : Lila and her parents were a Sinhalese, and they lived happily in their one bedroom house in a village at Sri Lanka. British came over with the Tamils, and that included Robbi and his parents who were one of the Tamils family. Robbi's parents works as tea-planters in Sri Lanka.
Lila and Robbi became very close friends, despite the arguments between the "Sinhalese" and
"Tamils". They went through a series of hardships together, but the bond in their friendships is too strong to be broken by anyone. Lila and Robbi grew up, and went to University together.
